The Maven Arts Strategies (MAS) team is a brain trust of specialists, leaders, implementers and creatives all with valuable experience in the nonprofit sector and specifically with arts and culture organizations. We have dedicated our professional lives to guiding arts organizations to success.

Julia Rivera is a Los Angeles-based professional specializing in branding, strategic partnerships, and audience development for arts organizations and cultural institutions.


For the last 20 years she has served as marketing director and marketing consultant for organizations such as The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County and its Family of Museums, Los Angeles Opera, The Broad Museum, and Los Angeles Ballet.

​Julia was part of the “digital coast” internet startup and digital agency boom in Los Angeles and segued her career into broadcast TV producing at Paramount Television. There she learned content production for large and small screens in preparation for the growth of digital content delivery. As an account director for Monster Worldwide, she gained important agency experience and knowledge of project management, media planning, creative processes, and brand development while leading employer branding projects and recruitment advertising campaigns for clients in entertainment and aerospace such as Warner Bros., Aerojet and Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). For her personal commitment to service, Julia sits on advisory boards of theatre companies and is one of American Corporate Partner’s (ACP) veteran career coaches who mentors members of the Armed Forces preparing for civilian careers. Originally from Chicago, she is a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served three tours while stationed in the US and the Pacific Rim. Most importantly, Julia is constantly leveling up her knowledge and expertise, and considers herself a life-long learner.


Creative Director & Brand Strategist

Nancy Batlin has over 20 years of experience building brands and crafting strategies for a broad range of industries, including Arts & Culture organizations. Her unique 360° perspective is the hallmark of her work, looking at brands from the inside out to ensure the business foundation supports the brand vision. She believes that a powerful brand is a mix of pragmatic and creative thinking that fosters an emotional connection with audiences. In addition to her work as a brand and creative strategist, Nancy is also an award-winning designer [print, digital, broadcast, environemental & lifestyle product design).
